Kernersville North Carolina.
Let me begin by stating that I have lived in Kernersville North Carolina for over twelve years. I will begin my studies starting with the town I have been in for over half my life. Kernersville is located in Forsyth County North Carolina which of course is in the southeast of the United States. The population as of July 2009 is 23,193.*
The figures in the population pyramid to the left come from the US Census Bureau, I believe as of 2000, when there were around 17,000 people. The age in which the pyramid goes are from 0 to 4, 5 to 9, etc. The blue on the left are male, and the red on the right are females. The pyramid shows that Kernersville is slowly growing. The middle of the pyramid shows that there are far more middle-aged adults than there are elderly and youth. There are also what seems to be a bit more older females than older males residing in Kernersville, which may be because of the longer average lifespan that women have over men. A, as of 2000, 84.11% of the population were white, 8.74% were black or african american, and the other 7.15% being of other races.*
Interesting Fact
Kernersville was actually first called Dobson's Crossing in the late 1700s. President George Washington actually stoped by in June of 1791 while he was touring the sites in North Carolina in which battles of the Revolutionary War took place.
Kernersville is conveniently located right above the piedmont's "triad," which is Winston-Salem, Greensboro, and High point. This, my friends, is the reason why there are so many middle-aged adults living in Kernersville. Kernersville is an easy drive to all three of these cities, and is also a quiet and pieceful town.
What is there to do in Kernersville?
The are many things to do in Kernersville, from fishing in Kernersville Lake, to riding you bike on the 7-mile Salem Lake trail. If you decide to take a trip to Kernersville, be sure to visit the historic downtown of Kernersville, where you can visit the famous Korner's Folly, which was built in the late 1800s by a decendent of Joseph Korner, the man which Kernersville was named after. Or you can visit the botanical garden located just a few blocks from the folly. Also, check out the outdoor area located just behind the old factory located in the actual downtown of Kernersville.
In early May, Kernersville holds a weekend event which is called the spring folly. The folly includes rides, fair foods, live music, and more. Be sure to plan a trip to Kernersville when the folly is taking place.
Kernersville may not be the biggest, and it may not have the most stuff to do, but if you are into history, or if you do not want to live in the city, I am sure that Kernersville is the place for you. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I hope that you will take the time in the future to review other posts that I will post of research, which will include research of Forsyth County, the Triad, and eventually of all of North Carolina.
Have a great day
